Ed ecco riaffiorare dal mio passato degli anni ’80 per assonanza…un icona della musica Cindy Lauper. Se il nome é stato scelto come gioco di parole (synth per sintetizzatore e looper che é un sequencer che fa girare all’infinito delle frasi musicali) che avvicina strumenti moderni con una musicista del recente passato, complimenti! Ma dubito che per età l’artista in questione possa averne vissuto gli anni d’oro…ma se invece anche nonostante la questione del tempo, ci sia stata una ricerca e quindi la conoscenza e il riconoscersi nelle idee come emancipazione, sensualità, giustizia, liberazione…allora complimenti due volte!

Perdonatemi se la definisco artista, questa fanciulla cyborg del Mitchigan, perché é riduttivo…

Si tratta di un concetto incarnato, un mondo cyberpunk, distopico che unisce il cosplay, la performance e ovviamente la musica. Quest’ultima fa da colonna sonora ad una Blade Runner interiore, intuiamo che ci sia una storia sia dietro che nel futuro ma che ci sarà raccontata successivamente. Intanto prepariamo le nostre menti e i circuiti…

Dal Vivo ha un look total white, da robot e come tale si muove, con stivaloni fetish in pelle laccata, minigonna e una struttura trasparente futuristica un po’ manga. Tecnologia e femminilità.

Ci presenta 3 brani dove il mondo del futuro é una metafora della corruzione che viviamo oggi come nel passato. Le persone sono ‘meccanizzate’ nelle loro abitudini, siamo integrati nella tecnologia e comunque siamo senzienti…non necessariamente sensibili, ma consapevoli che una parte profonda di noi é vulnerabile – e quindi é seducente l’ipotesi della tecnologia o di un potere forte che ci protegge. Questi ultimi peró approfittano delle nostre debolezze per arricchirsi (come sempre) ma il popolo cibernetico unito li punirà.

Musicalmente: l’onnipresente voce esce un po’ inscatolata, come verrebbe fuori da una bambola dotata di speaker. Potrebbe essere una scelta ed infatti contribuisce a creare il mondo attorno al personaggio/concetto. Nonostante l’effettistica esce fuori chiara l’emotività dal cantato e da una pronuncia chiarissima. L’arrangiamento esula da quelli che sarebbero stilemi pop-edm-electro fatti per le masse. Sarebbe una musica proveniente dal futuro, peccato che abbiamo avuto già Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Moroder…non ci sono pretese peró, é tutto funzionale alla creazione dell’ambientazione e alla veicolazione del messaggio. In alcuni tratti sembra che la composizione dei ritmi sia proprio lasciato alle macchine – secondo alcuni é la definizione piú pura di musica elettronica.

L’approccio della produzione sceglie dei panpot estremi per le varie sezioni degli strumenti, funziona molto bene per la monocompatibilità, in cuffia crea un po’ di straniamento e forse é ricercato. Probailmente dal vivo avrebbe una resa che crea una maggiore profondità di ambientazione, non ho ancora avuto la fortuna di testare.

Fatevi sedurre da questo progetto e seguiamolo per vedere come sviluppa.

And here resurfaces from my past of the 80s by assonance … a music icon Cindy Lauper. If the name was chosen as a play on words (synth for synthesizer and looper which is a sequencer that endlessly spins musical phrases) that brings together modern instruments with a musician from the recent past, congratulations! But I doubt that by age the artist in question could have lived through the golden years … but if instead even despite the question of time, there has been a search and therefore the knowledge and recognition in ideas such as emancipation, sensuality, justice, liberation…then congratulations twice!

Forgive me if I call this cyborg girl from Michigan an artist, because it’s an understatement…

It is an embodied concept, a cyberpunk, dystopian world that combines cosplay, performance and of course music. The latter acts as a soundtrack to an inner Blade Runner, we sense that there is a story both behind and in the future but which will be told to us later. In the meantime, let’s prepare our minds and circuits…

Live has a total white look, like a robot and as such it moves, with fetish boots in lacquered leather, a miniskirt and a transparent futuristic somewhat manga structure. Technology and femininity.

Synthia Looper presents us with 3 songs where the world of the future is a metaphor for the corruption we experience today as in the past. People are ‘mechanized’ in their habits, we are integrated in technology and in any case we are sentient…not necessarily sensitive, but aware that a deep part of us is vulnerable – and therefore the hypothesis of technology or a strong power that protects. The latter, however, take advantage of our weaknesses to enrich themselves (as always) but the united cybernetic people will punish them.

Musically: the omnipresent voice comes out a bit canned, as it would come out of a doll equipped with a speaker. It could be a choice and in fact helps create the world around the character/concept. Despite the effects, the emotionality of the singing and a very clear pronunciation come out clearly. The arrangement goes beyond what would be pop-edm-electro styles made for the masses. It would be music from the future, too bad we already had Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Moroder… there are no pretensions though, it’s all functional to creating the setting and conveying the message. In some places it seems that the composition of the rhythms is left to the machines – according to some it is the purest definition of electronic music.

The production approach chooses extreme panpots for the various sections of the instruments, works very well for monocompatibility, creates a bit of alienation in the headphones and is perhaps sought after. Probably live it would have a rendering that creates greater depth of setting, I haven’t had the good fortune to test yet.
