Intervista a THE HYBRIS
Come è nata la vostra passione per la musica?
È difficile dirlo, sembra che la musica sia “sempre stata lì”. Prima sulla radio e le prime lezioni sui rispettivi strumenti, poi siamo stati attratti sempre di più da questo argomento, abbiamo conosciuto diversi stili musicali e tante band incredibili. Una volta che hai sperimentato il divertimento e il potere in una sala prove, la magia di creare musica, ne vuoi sempre di più.
Come vi siete incontrati?
Ci conosciamo da tanti anni, anche da scuola. Già da ragazzini abbiamo formato la nostra prima band e abbiamo distrutto le scatole hi-fi perché ci suonavamo sopra le chitarre. All’inizio, ovviamente, le cover, i primi tentativi di canzoni proprie sono seguiti da 18 o 19 anni.
“THE HYBRIS” scrive e produce la musica a distanza. Quali sono le difficoltà che riscontri di più?
Ognuno di noi ha allestito un piccolo studio di registrazione a casa e ognuno suona strumenti diversi. Tutti contribuiscono con ciò di cui ha bisogno la canzone attuale. Grazie alle possibilità tecniche di oggi, abbiamo costruito uno studio virtuale comune. In passato, dovevi spendere un sacco di soldi per costosi studi di registrazione ed essere creativo in un periodo di tempo limitato. Questo porta sempre a pressione e insoddisfazione. Oggi è diverso, ognuno di noi può iniziare quando c’è il flusso, è fantastico. Ma se chiedi difficoltà: manca la birra in comune in sala prove.
“Keep The Wolves Away”. Di cosa parla la canzone?
La canzone parla di una delle più grandi crisi politiche degli ultimi decenni. Speriamo che coloro che vedranno il video capiranno meglio il testo e sapranno a cosa ci riferiamo.
“The Hybris”. Perché questo nome?
Siamo persone politicamente interessate. Il termine hybris (o hybris) deriva dalla tragedia greca e sta per ‘esagerato orgoglio di sé, arroganza, eccesso di ambizione che causano la rovina del trasgressore’. A volte sembra che questa “arroganza” sia il titolo della vita che stiamo vivendo come umanità in questo momento.
Viviamo in un mondo che sta crollando sotto molti aspetti… Qual è il ruolo della musica in questo mondo?
Non eccezionale, temo, sono realista. La musica può unire le persone e trasportare energia, nel migliore dei casi risvegliare emozioni e far riflettere. Puoi assumere posizioni diverse nella tua musica o incoraggiare le persone a esprimere la loro opinione. Oppure solleva un nuovo argomento a cui altri non hanno pensato prima. Ma i grandi cambiamenti devono essere portati da altri.
Il tuo sound è tra l’alternative rock e il punk rock. Perché questi generi musicali e non altri?
Questo è semplicemente ciò che esce da noi quando prendiamo in mano uno strumento. Mi piace la musica con potenza e con grandi melodie. Possiamo fare musica più calma quando siamo (ancora) più grandi. Ma forse no, forse faremo sempre a pezzi e urleremo.
Se la tua musica fosse un dipinto, un libro o un film?
Accidenti, è dura. Probabilmente molto probabilmente uno dei nostri fratelli eroi dei fumetti, forse Batman. Adoro “Joker”, uno dei migliori film degli ultimi anni.

How did your passion for music come about?
It’s hard to say, it feels like music has “always been there”. First about the radio and first lessons on the respective instruments, then we were drawn further and further into this topic, got to know different styles of music and so many incredible bands. Once you’ve experienced the fun and power in a rehearsal room, the magic of creating music, you always want more.
How did you meet?
We have known each other for many years, even from school. Already as kids we formed our first band and destroyed hi-fi boxes because we played guitars over them. At first, of course, cover songs, first attempts at own songs followed from 18 or 19.
“THE HYBRIS” writes and produces their music remotely. What difficulties do you experience the most?
Each of us has set up a small recording studio at home and each plays different instruments. Everyone contributes what the current song needs. Thanks to today’s technical possibilities, we have built a common virtual studio. In the past, you had to spend tons of money for expensive recording studios and be creative in a limited amount of time. This always leads to pressure and dissatisfaction. That’s different today, each of us can get started when the flow is there, that’s amazing. But if you ask for difficulties: the joint beer in the rehearsal room is missing.
“Keep The Wolves Away”. What is the song about?
The song is about one of the biggest political crises of the last decades. Hopefully, those who see the video will understand the lyrics better and know what we are referring to.
“Hybris”. Why this name?
We are politically interested people. The term hybris (or hubris) comes from the Greek tragedy and stands for ‘exaggerated self-pride, arrogance, excess of ambition causing the transgressor’s ruin’. Sometimes it feels like this ‘hubris’ is the headline for the life we are living as humanity right now.
We live in a world collapsing in many respects… What is the role of music in this world?
Not a great one, I’m afraid, I’m a realist. Music can bring people together and transport energy, in the best case awaken emotions and make people think. You can take different positions in your music or encourage people in their opinion. Or bring up a new topic that others have not thought about before. But the big changes have to be brought about by others.
Your sound is between alternative rock and punk rock. Why these musical genres and not others?
That’s simply what comes out of us when we pick up an instrument. I like music with power and with big melodies. We can make calmer music when we are (still) older. But maybe not, maybe we will always shred and scream.
If your music was a painting, a book or a film?
Phew, that’s a tough one. Probably most likely one of our comic book hero brothers, maybe Batman. I love “Joker”, one of the best movies in recent years.
