Intervista a DaviT

Adoro i veri synth analogici vintage.

– Moon modular 5u system
– 2 korg MS-10
– Model D
– Juno 106
– Jomox X-base 09
– Moog DFAM
– PPG 1020
– Suziki Omnichord
– Some strymons effects
– Alesis MMT-8

E alcuni attrezzi fuoribordo.

Come è nato il singolo “Trasmission me”?

english version:

Can you tell us a bit about your music? When and how did you start making music?

I come from a music minded family, at least on my father’s side. Both my father and grandfather were proffessional drummers. So music was a big part of my upbringing. After graduating from the conservatoria in the city of Rotterdam a started my career as a drummer and teacher. in 2009 a started my own music education / school rock City Institute, based in the city of Eindhoven. After 20 years playing drums in a lot of different bands i decided to put my musical focus on compossing and producing my own tracks. So in the winter of 2017 a started to record several tracks that resulted in my first E.P Transister.

What are your inspirations for song lyrics?

Transmission Me concerns the critical approach of a part of the society on people who are on the fringes of society. While everyone might befall this easy. A strong message to a world of many quick decisions without knowledge of the facts.

What are the bands that inspire you?

A love to listen to music and my taste evolved over the years. I now listen mostly to experimental instrumental music going from ambient tracks to more classical oriented tracks.

To name a few:
Arvo Part
Abul Mogard
Library tapes
Johann Johannsonn
ketev
Jon Hopkins
Ital tek
Kanding ray
Roly portet

I have a nice playlist on my spotify channel. So check that one out also.

How do your songs come to life?

When i write, a lot of this is still trail and error and i am trying to be so productive as possible. Also limitations are the best thing that happened to me. In the beginning of this year i started out making short one take jams using only my small 5u moon modular. Trying to make some harmonic and melodic content using only three voices on the modular was daunting but a lot of fun, check my youtube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0s-cIq0m6bjw0g9jmXfWTQ

What kind of environment do you create for yourself when you’re writing a song?

I can’t write music everywhere and i need some specific sounds or gear to trigger my inspiration. When i’m in this creative flow and not thinking to much about the outcome mostly that is the best scenario for me.

What tools do you use for electronics?

I love real analog vintage synth’s. So i don’t create in the box and use logic or ableton more as a recorder. I use midi a lot to trigger all of my synth’s.

My gearlist now :

– Moon modular 5u system
– 2 korg MS-10
– Model D
– Juno 106
– Jomox X-base 09
– Moog DFAM
– PPG 1020
– Suziki Omnichord
– Some strymons effects
– Alesis MMT-8

And some outboard gear. Alway’s in search for more..ofcourse. But never forget that to write music you don’t need much. In most of my tracks i use maybe three or four elements of sounds coming from my gear.

How was the single “Trasmission me” born? What does this song mean to you?

The music went really quick. I think in ten minutes i had already the outline for the track. Started with the DFAM beat and making the MS-10 hook. Then adding chords on the Juno the track had direction to put the melody on. For me Transmission Me is a melancholic ballad that will take your mind on a journey. It’s about people that fall and struggle to come back in society again.

What are the differences between “Trasmission me” and “Transister”?

My music always breathe’s a dark ,warm ambient atmosphere. And most of my tracks have definitely a cinematic tension to it. I’m a sucker for harmony and melody and trying to incorporate this into my tracks as well. In transmission me the focus on the vocal melody is more intens and emotional ,allowing to go more in depth with the track.

In today’s world what is the role of music?

Healing!

In addition to music, which arts do you prefer?

I love dance performances, film and fotography. In fact i think that my music it’s suttable for film. Dance is all about rythm and expresion. So it could be posible to incluid modern dance in my next videoclip. Sometimes i just have a picture in my head when making music. With the new media posibilyties men are conected en arts posiblitys are extended.

What band or musician dead or alive would you share the stage with?

There are simply to many artist that i would love to have a coffee and sitting down making music with. Some classical composers like Bach would be a good starting point!
