Rose Haze – Maximum Security Prism

L’album comincia con “Charge on”.

English version:

The album begins with “Charge on”. And here we have a trip hop style sound, an ethereal trip hop that makes me think of Portishead, a more flamboyant, more psyched Portishead. It’s like merging Portishead with the music of Hana (from Los Angeles). Kate Ramsey’s voice is so passionate and catchy and we are immediately hooked by this lead vocalist. The chorus is wonderful: our heart beats to listen to it !!

It continues with “Posers”, a dark song with martial sounds / refrains. The sound carpets make the song always so psychedelic. The singing is always so bewitching. Then comes “Prism” and we move on to synth pop with 80s sound that makes me think of something of Danz (Computer magic), Grimes of his first songs or even Hana. Some electro melodies / inserts are really catchy. Same words for Kate Ramsey’s vocals. Prism is such a mental, dreamlike, surreal song.

“Hours” follows. After the intro with guitar, the song always relaxes with this very dreamy, psychedelic inspiration. There are lashing guitars, shoegaze and electro magnetic refrains. Then there is “Moon Virgo” with these very ambient, traveling sounds. “Genuine” presents a throbbing, quivering, enchanting piano, a sort of ballad that fits well on this record.

Then comes “Let’s turn” with these hypnotic sounds and intricate beats. More psych distortions in this instrumental song. With “Just a place” it all ends, a sort of psych synth pop / trip hop sound dirge. Here Kate Ramsey is truly “superlative” with her voice.

Rose Haze have created a truly intriguing sonic hybrid: there is synth / dream pop, there is shoegaze, ambient, psych rock, trip hop. In short, an explosive mixture that Kate Ramsey’s voice enhances in an incredible way. Rose Haze has brought psych rock into the contemporary world by making a commendable intellectual operation. Their music is at times noir, at times traveling, capable of transporting us into a sort of sound wormhole. There is no lack of dancey passages (Prism) that make me imagine a club with neon lights. Rose Haze’s music is a mysterious object from deep space, an object that is capable of upsetting your mind, your lives, your imagination….
