Intervista a Seira

Benvenuti su system failure. Come vi siete incontrati?

Korn – “Follow the leader” e “Serenity of suffering”, Metallica – self-titled album Metallica,
Papa Roach – “Infest”, Limp Bizkit – “Significant other” e “All hope is gone”, Slipknot – “(sic)nesses”, Deftones – “White Pony”, System of a Down – “Toxicity”, Beartooth – “Aggressive”, A Day to Remember – “Homesick” etc…

english version:

Welcome to system failure. How did you meet? How was the Seira project born?

It all started with 2 best friends (guitarist Agris and bassist Pēteris) that used to play together in a band that parted ways in 2009. That indescribable feeling of playing and being on stage never went away so they kept going forward by themselves till Agris finally found Stasis among 12-15 drummers around 2014 and in 2016 Pēteris asked Egija to join. In conclusion this project was set in motion several years ago we just didn’t realize it then – so in the beginning of 2016 we united as one and by the end of 2018 we are known to the public as Seira when we released our debut album Decrypting Parallels.

Which messages do you want to convey with your band, with your music?

Do you know that feeling when you listening to a song and completely can relate and somehow it gets better? This is exactly what we wish for our listeners to experience – feeling of being understood. We need to notice and address even smallest sufferings rather than suppressing our emotions in order to be the best we can be so in some way with our music we are attempting to encourage more compassion towards others and toward yourself.

Can you tell us about your musical background?

We’ve met quite recently, and we try our best to balance our full-time jobs with this creative project. Although making music is more of a secondary thing, we have played some local shows participated in various contests, but for now our focus is to create more before planning next steps, tours etc. Decrypting Parallels is just a start that puts us on the radar we’ll see what future holds for us.

Can you also name a few albums so important for you?

There are too many great artists that deserve to be on this list but let’s say these are few firsts, that inspired us to do music.

Korn – Follow the leader and Serenity of suffering, Metallica – self-titled album Metallica,
Papa Roach – Infest, Limp Bizkit – Significant other and All hope is gone, Slipknot – (sic)nesses, Deftones – White Pony, System of a Down – Toxicity, Beartooth – Aggressive, A Day to Remember – Homesick and so on.

How do your songs take shape? Who takes care of the songwriting?

Everyone is taking part, but the key person is guitarist Agris – he composes the main idea and then others make it grow. So first goes core melody then bass and drums write usually together to give it a texture, groove, accents or whatever they feel like doing and finally goes vocal melody and lyrics done by Egija. We work together so every detail is in control, we discuss our work and suggesting if something needs to be changed or encouraging to continue.

A question for lead vocalist Egija Ziediņa. Have you attended any schools to sing?

No, I sang in choir when I was little but I took lessons from vocal couch and now when there is a chance I try to watch webinars and read vocal related articles to get useful tips.

How much do alternative rock/alternative metal genres enhance your musical talent?

If you love doing something you will try to put your best effort and if it happens that you do well it can be associated with talent but we don’t think that genre itself enhances talent, it’s still more about work you put in.

Still talking about talent. Does talent or study in music count more? How do they intertwine in an artist or in a band?

It’s like color plate – talent is one color and all the things you learn along the way adds additional color to your plate so the more colors you have the more you can do. But to have painting you can’t just have colors you have to actually do the work. Talent maybe makes it a bit easier because it comes more naturally but you still need to master your skill to use it to its full potential.

We reviewed your “Decrypting Parallels”. What are the lyrics about?

‘Parallels’ is metaphor for lifelines that in ideal version would be parallel, but in our case these lines are tangled that represents all kind of obstacles and struggle and ‘Decrypting’ is the key verb, action what we are trying do with those lifelines most of our lives. So in chorus “Put these lines in order – arrange me…” is a way of searching for strenght to get clarity and peace when everything seems to be a compleate mess.

Which track do you prefer from this album?

Decrypting Parallels because it connects every other song in the album into one and defines the whole idea. This was the last song we wrote for the album and there are some details that shows direction we are planning to go next. We would like to mention also “Heavy eye” – that was the first song ever we wrote together and “Neverland” was first recorded, so these songs are legendary for us too.

What does the cover of your album represent?

Parallels represent harmony, the ideal state of mind when every complication and struggle is unraveled.

Future projects?

We are currently working on our second album. There will be more upbeat and energetic compositions, we are planning to add keys and samples to experiment with more modern sound and electronics. Collaborations with other musicians is also one of the things we are going to try.

Finally, greet our readers and encourage them to listen to your music …

This can’t be coincidence and we believe everything happens for a reason so If you got this far you might as well give us a chance and listen what is this all about and don’t forget to have a great day.
