Bentornati su system failure. Avete pubblicato “Akeneo”. Di cosa parla questa canzone?

Grazie! È un piacere tornare. “Akeneo” parla di un ciclo morto di autocommiserazione e miseria. A proposito di persone che sono bloccate nei loro problemi e non sono in grado di fare un passo avanti e spezzare questo cerchio di sofferenze, aspettando continuamente che qualcuno le aiuti. Questa canzone è stata ispirata da un nostro amico che era in quello stato da 1,5 anni.

“Akeneo” è una canzone molto difficile da interpretare per il canto. Eissa(in foto sopra) puoi spiegarmi perché?

Prima di tutto, questa canzone combina voci pulite, voci distorte e voci estreme (screams). Queste sono tre diverse tecniche vocali. Inoltre, la voce pulita è alta e persistente, il che può causare fiato corto. Inoltre, la canzone dura 6 minuti quasi senza interruzioni per un cantante, il che richiede un buon controllo e respiro. Infine, per me questa canzone è molto emozionante. Combina malinconia, rabbia e ispirazione, che dovrebbero essere tutte presenti nella voce.

Come state vivendo l’attuale emergenza sanitaria?

Siamo fortunati a poter lavorare da casa. In realtà abbiamo un sacco di lavoro in questi due mesi, ma stiamo anche cercando di essere produttivi come musicisti. Dal momento che le esibizioni dal vivo non sono un’opzione praticabile stiamo provando a pubblicare copertine e realizzare live streaming per coloro che sono bloccati nelle loro case senza lavoro o intrattenimento. Spero che queste piccole cose possano migliorare un po’ la loro quarantena.

Essere sempre chiusi può anche portare a forme di depressione e follia mentale. Cosa ne pensi?

Sono personalmente d’accordo con questa affermazione. Mi sentivo molto depressa dopo essere rimasto a casa per un mese. La stanza sembrava sempre piccola e senza aria. Inoltre non ho quasi avuto il tempo di rilassarmi, dal momento che stavo lavorando duramente per il rilascio di “Akeneo”. Ma ho iniziato a fare sport a casa, a giocare alcuni giochi online con i nostri amici e a leggere libri accanto a una finestra aperta. Cercare di rendere la mia vita più diversificata ed evitare di annoiarmi per quello che mi è venuto in mente, che fosse disegnare, leggere, creare, allenarmi o giocare con i miei animali domestici.

Nel video di “Akeneo” possiamo vedere le immagini del tour Wild Spirit. Cosa hai provato emotivamente in quel tour?

È stata un’esperienza straordinaria! Come un’avventura senza fine con nuove persone, ottima musica e splendide viste. Mi è sembrato molto naturale, come se lo stessi facendo per tutta la mia vita. È stato anche molto emozionante incontrare persone che amano la tua musica. Non vedo l’ora di tornare sulla strada!

So che la cantante di Infected Rain, Elena, è stata molto soddisfatta della cover dei Morphide di “Orphan Soul”. Come ci si sente ad essere apprezzati da una persona che ora ha una certa risonanza nel metal attuale?

È una sensazione indescrivibile! Non avrei mai pensato di fare qualcosa di speciale. Mi sento una persona normale, mentre Lena Scissorhands è una donna, che ha ottenuto molto nella musica e nella sua carriera. È una professionista, viaggia in tutto il mondo e si esibisce di fronte a migliaia di persone. E poi ci sono io, una principiante. Quindi il fatto che abbia apprezzato la mia cover di “Orphan Soul” mi ha fatto sentire molto felice. È come un segno per continuare a lavorare di più, in modo che un giorno tu possa essere notato.

Qualche programma per il futuro? Un album o EP?

Anche se al momento stiamo pubblicando solo singoli, stiamo pianificando di pubblicare un album completo nel 2020, e sembra che siamo sulla buona strada. Inoltre, stiamo programmando di rilasciare anche altri video musicali. Ti terremo aggiornato.

Welcome back to system failure. You have published “Akeneo”. What is this song about?

Thank you! It’s a pleasure to be back. “Akeneo” is about a dead loop of self-pity and misery. About people, who are stuck in their problems, but are not able to make a step forward and break this circle of sufferings, endlessly waiting for someone to help them. This song was inspired by a friend of ours, who was in that state for 1,5 years.

“Akeneo” is a very difficult song to interpret for singing. Eissa can you explain why?

First of all, this song combines clean vocals, distorted vocals and extreme vocals (screams). These are three different vocal techniques. Also, clean vocals are high and lingering, which may cause you being short on breath. Moreover, the song is 6 minutes long almost with no breaks for a singer, which requires a good control and breathing. Finally, to me this song is very emotional. It combines melancholia, anger and inspiration, all of which should be present in voice.

How are you experiencing the current health emergency?

We are lucky to be able to work from home. We actually have a lot of work these couple of months, but we are also trying to be productive as musicians. Since live performances are not an option, we are trying to release covers and make livestreams for those, who are stuck in their homes with no work or entertainment. I hope these small things can make their quarantine a bit better.

Being always closed can also lead to forms of depression and mental insanity. What do you think about it?

I personally agree with this statement. I felt very depressed after staying home for one month. The room always felt small and out of air. I also had almost no time to relax, since I was working hard on release of “Akeneo”. But I started doing sports at home, playing some games online with our friends and reading books next to an open window. Trying to make my life more diverse and avoid feeling bored by whatever came to my mind, being it drawing, reading, crafting, working out or playing with my pets.

In the video of “Akeneo” we can see images of the Wild Spirit tour. What did you feel emotionally on that tour?

It was an amazing experience! Like a never-ending adventure with new people, great music and beautiful views. It felt very natural, as if I was doing it for my whole life. It was also very emotional to meet people, who enjoy your music. I can’t wait to get back on the road!

I know that Infected Rain’s singer Elena was very pleased with the Morphide cover of “Orphan Soul”. How does it feel to be appreciated by a person who now has a certain resonance in current metal?

It is indescribable feeling! I never thought I am doing anything special. I feel like regular person, while Lena Scissorhands is a woman, who achieved a lot in music and in her career. She is a professional, travelling all over the world and performing in front of thousands of people. And then there’s me, a beginner. So the fact that she appreciated my cover of “Orphan Soul” made me feel very happy. It’s like a sign to keep working harder, so that one day you could be noticed.

Any plans for the future? An album or EP?
