Carmilla – il loro ep “6442”
Abbiamo parlato più volte nelle nostre pagine della band metal svedese che porta il nome Carmilla. Dopo “Nevermore”, uscito su tutte le principali piattaforme digitali il 5 febbraio, arrivano con questo nuovo ep dal titolo “6442”, ep che abbiamo avuto il piacere di ascoltare in anteprima.
“Angel eye” comincia con un arpeggio e con sonorità tanto atmosferiche e melanconiche. Poi entra il cantato di Nathalie Astrada ed alcuni riff corpulenti. Poi ancora lo scream di Nathalie e sonorità heavy metal. Belle la pausa tanto melodica e riflessiva con solo tanto delicato. I riff pesanti dettano legge e siamo di fronte ad una sorta di melodic metal/gothic metal tanto suggestivo. Ogni tanto si sfocia nel death metal come nell’heavy metal.
Poi arriva “Burning heart” con arpeggio accompagnato anche qui da riff robusti. Nathalie Astrada è sempre tanto melodica su un ritmica solida. Poi arrivano suoi scream stupefacenti. Mai come adesso i Carmilla sono stati tanto melodici e cool: Nathalie Astrada può offrire in pieno le sue qualità vocali, la sua estensione vocale su una ritmica vigorosa che la sostiene. Quello dei Carmilla sembra quasi progressive metal per le tante variazioni che ascoltiamo. Nathalie Astrada sia nello scream che nel clean è formidabile.
Infine c’è “Underground”. Qui siamo in pieno melodic death metal con ritmi e sonorità super serrate, marziali. I passaggi melodici non mancano mai come pure altezze siderali raggiunte dalla voce di Nathalie. Basso e batteria sono davvero killer, non c’è che dire.
Songwriting davvero molto buono in questa band. Mixing un po’ da migliorare come pure la produzione sonora mentre il mastering sembra molto buono pure esso. In alcuni tratti il sound arriva come una vera e propria mazzata sul nostro capo.
I Carmilla come sempre dimostrano di essere tanto tosti. Inoltre, questa volta, ci offrono anche alcuni passaggi melodici memorabili.

We have spoken several times in our pages about the Swedish metal band that bears the name Carmilla. After “Nevermore”, released on all major digital platforms on February 5th, they come with this new ep entitled “6442”, which we had the pleasure of hearing in a preview.
“Angel eye” begins with an arpeggio and with very atmospheric and melancholic sounds. Then comes Nathalie Astrada’s vocals and some burly riffs. Then again Nathalie’s scream and heavy metal sounds.
The break so melodic and reflective with just so delicate is beautiful. The heavy riffs dictate the law and we are faced with a sort of melodic metal / gothic metal that is so suggestive. Occasionally it leads to death metal as well as heavy metal.
Then comes “Burning heart” with arpeggio accompanied here again by robust riffs. Nathalie Astrada is always so melodic on a solid rhythm. Then come her astounding scream of her. Never before have Carmilla been so melodic and cool: Nathalie Astrada can fully offer her vocal qualities, her vocal extension on a vigorous rhythm that sustains her. Carmilla’s seems almost progressive metal for the many variations we listen to. Nathalie Astrada in both scream and clean is formidable.
Finally there is “Underground”. Here we are in full melodic death metal with super tight, martial rhythms and sounds. The melodic passages are never lacking as well as sidereal heights reached by Nathalie’s voice. Bass and drums are really killer, no doubt about it.
Really very good songwriting in this band. Mixing a bit to improve as well as the sound production while the mastering looks very good as well. In some places the sound comes as a real blow to our head.
The Carmilla, as always, prove to be so tough. Plus, this time around, they also offer us some memorable melodic passages.
