Seira – Decrypting Parallels
A volte le cose fanno semplicemente clic. I quattro membri dei Seira, la cantante Egija Ziediņa, il chitarrista Agris Midegs, il bassista Pēteris Baumanis e il batterista Staņislavs Silovs hanno scoperto la musica da soli, in modi diversi. Tutti avevano preso parte a varie band collegate alla scena underground della Lettonia, ma non appena si sono incontrati nel 2016, la vera chimica è avvenuta che ha scatenato succhi creativi e ha portato al loro album di debutto “Decrypting Parallels” nel 2018 registrato da Kārlis Šteimanis a KS Records – Unity Audio.

“Con Decrypting Parallels abbiamo trovato l’unità. Non era nostra intenzione cercare un altro mondo o un nuovo genere per questo disco, volevamo essere più crudi possibile. Il suono si basa sull’interpretazione di diversi suoni con i quali siamo cresciuti, quindi i fan degli anni Novanta sentiranno sicuramente qualcosa di familiare. Nel prossimo ci si può aspettare che sperimenteremo un suono più moderno” Egija Ziediņa.
Abbiamo ascoltato “Decrypting Parallels” e le seguenti sono le nostre considerazioni al riguardo.
Si parte con l’opener e title-track “Decrypting Parallels” con un drumming solido sul quale subito possiamo apprezzare il cantato potente della lead vocalist Egija Ziediņa. Questa canzone ci fa pensare alla band del Galles che porta il nome The Dirty Youth. Troviamo riff graffianti, grande lavoro di basso ed Egija che ci assale con un cantato imponente e lievemente strozzato. Grazie al chorus la canzone ha un discreto appeal. Bello il bridge finale con riff alternative metal.
Ascoltando “Aftertaste” non è difficile pensare agli Skarlett Riot di qualche anno fa per alcuni passaggi. Una canzone sia melodica che tanto potente. Bello l’intermezzo gothic rock che troviamo verso la fine della canzone. “Colorblind” sembra continuare ed approfondire la canzone precedente per alcune sonorità simili. Bello il tremolo verso l’uscita della canzone con altri riff alternative metal. Una considerazione sulla lead vocalist: è capace di una discreta estensione vocale e per noi è la colonna portante della band. È lei a portare delle esplosioni sonore notevoli.
Altro alternative metal in “Felons race”, più dura delle altre ed assimilabile all’ultimo disco di Skarlett Riot, ossia “Regenerate“. I riff sono vere e proprie mitragliatrici in questa canzone. Anche qui un bridge stupendo. “Neverland” offre altri tremolo che portano una certa atmosfera gothic. Alcune parti di “Neverland” sono proprio clamorose! Miglior pezzo del disco a nostro giudizio, quello che ti stende a terra con alcuni suoi riff marziali.
Ancora tremolo ed esplosioni sonore in “Trader” dove esce di più l’anima alternative metal della band con riff modern metal di tanto vigore sonoro. Tanto sensuale il cantato di Egija in alcuni tratti della canzone. Una cavalcata sonora invece “Legion”, molto adatta per far scatenare le folle in sede live. Il tutto finisce con “Heavy eye” dove troviamo ancora “atmosfere sonore” tanto gothic.
Tra alternative metal e alternative rock Seira sfodera tutta la sua potenza sonora non rinunciando per questo a momenti melodici di grande effetto. Egija, punta di diamante della band, si dimostra lead vocalist esperta e conferisce il tocco in più ad una band già tanto matura e pronta per affrontare qualsiasi palco. Non passerà molto tempo secondo noi prima che qualche grande label noti questa band piena di talento…

Sometimes things just “Click”. The four members of Seira, vocalist Egija Ziediņa, guitarist Agris Midegs, bassist Pēteris Baumanis and drummer Staņislavs Silovs discovered music on their own, in different ways. They had all taken part in various bands connected to Latvia’s underground scene, but as soon as they found each other in 2016, the real chemistry happened that unleashed creative juices and resulted in their debut album “Decrypting Parallels” in 2018 recorded by Kārlis Šteimanis at KS Records – Unity Audio.

“With Decrypting Parallels, we just went with it, it was not our intention to look for another world or new genre for this record, we wanted to be as raw as possible. The sound is built on interpretation of different tunes we grew up listening to, so nineties kids will definitely hear something familiar. We listened to their album “Decrypting Parallels” and the following are our considerations about it.
It starts with the opener and title-track “Decrypting Parallels” with a solid drumming on which we can immediately appreciate the powerful vocals of lead vocalist Egija Ziediņa. This song makes us think of the band from Wales that bears the name The Dirty Youth. We find scratching riffs, great bass work and Egija that assails us with an imposing and slightly choked singing. Thanks to the chorus the song has a discreet appeal. Nice the final bridge with alternative metal riffs.
Listening to “Aftertaste” is not difficult to think of Skarlett Riot for some passages. A song that is both melodic and so powerful. Beautiful the gothic rock interlude that we find towards the end of the song. “Colorblind” seems to continue and deepen the previous song for some similar sounds. Nice the tremolo at start of the song with other alternative metal riffs. A consideration on the lead vocalist: it is capable of a good vocal range and for us it is the backbone of the band. She is the one who brings some remarkable sound explosions.
Another alternative metal in “Felons race”, harder than the others and similar to the last album by Skarlett Riot(Regenerate). The riffs are real machine guns in this song. Here too, a beautiful bridge. “Neverland” offers other tremolos that carry a certain gothic atmosphere. Some parts of “Neverland” are really sensational! The best piece of the record in our opinion, the one that lays you down with some of its martial riffs.
Still tremolo and sound explosions in “Trader” where the alternative metal soul of the band comes out with modern metal riffs of so much sonorous vigor. Egija’s singing in some parts of the song is so sensual. A sound ride instead of “Legion”, very suitable for live concerts. Everything ends with “Heavy Eye” where we still find gothic sound atmospheres.
Between alternative metal and alternative rock Seira unleashes all of her sound power without giving up melodic moments of great effect. Egija, spearhead of the band, proves to be an expert lead vocalist and gives the extra touch to a band that is already so mature and ready to face any stage.
