Mally Harpaz – Zoom in Zoom out
E’ uscito “Zoom in Zoom out”, il nuovo album di Mally Harpaz(https://www.mallyharpazmusic.co.uk/), polistrumentista che ha collaborato, tra l’altro, con Anna Calvi. System failure lo ha ascoltato e quelle che seguono sono le nostre considerazioni a riguardo.
Mally Harpaz è una polistrumentista ed una sperimentatrice audace e “Zoom in zoom out” è il manifesto fulgido ed emozionante del suo talento. Tanta importanza è stata data al piano, indiscusso protagonista in questo disco dalle trame eleganti, sofisticate, tanto evocative. Nel dire questo pensiamo a “Zoom out” per esempio o alla complementare “Zoom in”, quest’ultima presente anche in versione live con Hazel Iris.
Stupenda “Phone call away” con la partecipazione di James Marples al cantato. Tanto romantica questa canzone: infatti il romanticismo è una delle tante componenti di questo album a tratti scioccante e commovente. In “Not without pain” abbiamo un po di sfoggio del talento della su citata Anna Calvi che con la sua voce ci inebria in una canzone tanto enigmatica, una canzone che dopo la metà sembra mirata letteralmente ad aprire il nostro petto con passaggi alla “The Great Gig in the Sky” dei Pink Floyd.
“Don quijote”, invece, con il suo estro ansiogeno ed angosciante fa pensare al Philip Glass di “Naqoyqatsi” o di altri suoi componimenti. La part 2 della stessa canzone sembra una sorta di approfondimento della stessa con sapore più sci-fi e cinematografico, altra componente del disco, che potrebbe sembrare una sorta di colonna sonora tanto complessa e stratificata. Anche “Starry night” ci fa pensare ad un certo Philip Glass.
“Zoom in Zoom out” è un coacervo di sonorità espresse con grande poesia ed effetto, un coacervo di sonorità che, con grande tensione intrinseca, scatena in noi emozioni irrefrenabili. A tratti, ascoltando questo album, si ha l’impressione che la musica voglia “interrogarci” e scavare dentro di noi. Paesaggi sonori incredibili, come quelli della seconda parte di “Not without pain”, ci avvolgono e noi veniamo come risucchiati nel buco nero che porta all’assoluto…

“Zoom in Zoom out” was released, the new album by Mally Harpaz, multi-instrumentalist who collaborated, among other things, with Anna Calvi. System failure listened to it and the following are our considerations on the matter.
Mally Harpaz is a multi-instrumentalist and a daring experimenter and “Zoom in zoom out” is the shining and exciting manifesto of her talent. So much importance has been given to the piano, undisputed protagonist in this disc with elegant, sophisticated and evocative textures. In saying this we think of “Zoom out” for example or the complementary “Zoom in”, also in live version with Hazel Iris.
Superb “Phone call away” with the participation of James Marples in the singing. This song is so romantic: in fact romance is one of the many components of this album which is sometimes shocking. In “Not without pain” we have a little display of the talent of the aforementioned Anna Calvi who inebriates us in a song so enigmatic that after half seems literally aimed at opening our chest with passages to the “The Great Gig in the Sky “by Pink Floyd.
“Don quijote”, on the other hand, with its anxiety-provoking and anguishing inspiration makes one think of the Philip Glass of “Naqoyqatsi” or of his other compositions. The part 2 of the same song seems a sort of deepening of the same with a more sci-fi and cinematographic flavor, another component of the disc, which could seem a sort of so complex and stratified soundtrack. Even “Starry night” makes us think of a certain Philip Glass.
“Zoom in Zoom out” is a jumble of sounds expressed with great poetry and effect, a jumble of sounds that, with great intrinsic tension, unleash in us irrepressible emotions. At times, listening to this album, one has the impression that the music wants to “question us” and dig inside us. Incredible soundscapes, like those of the second part of “Not without pain”, envelop us and we come as sucked into the black hole that leads to the absolute …
