Puoi parlarci un po’ della tua musica? Quando e come hai iniziato a fare musica?
Quando faccio musica tendo sempre a scrivere di esperienze di vita o eventi che accadono nella società di oggi. Sono sempre stato pazza e ossessionata dalle cospirazioni o educato me stessa con le cose folli che stanno accadendo nel mondo oggi. Probabilmente non sentirai mai una canzone d’amore o di separazione scritta da me (personalmente penso che ne abbiamo troppa). Invece scriverei dei tradimenti che sono accaduti a me o agli altri intorno a me. Ho iniziato a fare musica quando avevo tre anni. I miei genitori mi hanno fatto avere lezioni di piano per circa otto anni e ho iniziato a cantare quando avevo nove anni. La musica rock e metal mi hanno sempre affascinato perché i miei genitori hanno sempre suonato la classica musica rock 24 ore su 24, quindi credo che questo mi abbia davvero influenzato nello scrivere musica in quel genere!
Quali sono le tue ispirazioni per i testi delle canzoni?
Quando si tratta di testi di canzoni mi piace sempre scrivere su un evento specifico o qualcosa che trovo interessante. Per il mio primo singolo “Never Again”, il movimento delle donne è stato super grande. Si è parlato di tutte le notizie e ho pensato che sarebbe stata l’occasione perfetta per scrivere una canzone su qualcosa di così popolare e qualcosa che le persone hanno bisogno di capire. Essere una femmina in qualsiasi settore può essere una sfida … essere pagati meno degli uomini, discusso troppo, non avere più opportunità degli uomini, ecc. Ecco perché volevo davvero fare una canzone per evocare ciò su cui riflette l’intero movimento delle donne e come cambiare il modo in cui gli uomini trattano le donne. “Stabilized” l’ho scritto sulla base delle esperienze personali che ho avuto nel mio passato. Durante i miei anni più giovani mi è sempre stato detto che i miei sogni sono stupidi, che non lo farei mai nell’industria musicale, che dovrei smettere di cantare, che non è un lavoro. Anch’io ho sempre parlato troppo o mi sono presa gioco del modo in cui mi vestivo o della musica che ascoltavo. Fu allora che capii che non dovevo mai permettere a nessuno di cambiare chi sono, che sono “stabilizzata” come sono.
Quali sono le band che ti ispirano?
Ho ascoltato molte band di tutti i generi che mi hanno influenzato ma quelle che mi hanno influenzato di più e mi hanno fatto scrivere musica sono: Soundgarden, Alice in chains, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, Porcupine tree, Pat Benatar, e Alannah Myles. Sono tutti così drasticamente diversi l’uno dall’altro, ma hanno tutti una qualità distinta che adoro.
Hai studiato per cantare o hai fatto tutto da sola?
Quando ho iniziato a cantare per la prima volta sono andato negli studi musicali di Moura a Bolton, in Ontario, e mi è stato insegnato da Kate Moura per circa sette anni. Mi è stato insegnato anche da Teresa Cirillo per alcuni anni dopo.
Come nascono le tue canzoni? Che tipo di ambiente crei per te stessa quando scrivi una canzone?
Quando scrivo di solito inizio solo con il pianoforte o la chitarra acustica e scrivo testi mentre cammino. Il 50 percento delle volte una canzone viene riorganizzata 3 o 4 volte per portarla dove voglio che sia. Può essere un processo lungo, ma una volta che portate i demo nello studio, sentirete come passano dal piano o dalla chitarra a una canzone rock completa. È davvero emozionante ascoltare le tue canzoni prendere vita!
Come è nato il singolo “Stabilized”? Che cosa significa questa canzone per te?
Come ho detto prima, ho scritto “Stabilized” riguardo ai tempi in cui sono stata messo giù e ho detto che ero “strano” o “non ce la farò nella vita se procedessi con la musica”. Questo è il mio modo di dire “Posso essere quello che voglio. Mi sento benissimo come sono!
Quali sono le differenze tra “Stabilized” e “Never again”?
“Stabilized” riguarda l’amor proprio e “Never again” riguarda i diritti delle donne. Entrambi parlano di empowerment ma lo ritraggono in un modo diverso.
Puoi dirci qualcosa sul tuo nuovo ep?
Sì! Rilascerò un ep di 4 canzoni entro la fine di quest’anno! Non posso dirvi troppo a riguardo ora, ma sono davvero entusiasta di rilasciare il resto del mio materiale al mondo!
Nel mondo di oggi qual è il ruolo della musica?
Credo che il ruolo della musica sia un modo di narrare o di attraversare un messaggio (sia negativo che positivo). La musica può influenzare le persone sia mentalmente che spiritualmente. La musica è ciò che unisce le persone.
Oltre alla musica, quali arti preferisci?
In realtà sono andato a una scuola d’arte per recitazione, montaggio cinematografico e arti visive. A parte la musica, amo disegnare, dipingere, montare video e recitare in cortometraggi. Sono un maniaco dell’arte, adoro tutto ciò che ha a che fare con la creatività … eccetto che per ballare, questa è una cosa che non sono capace di fare!!
Con quale band o musicista vivo o morto condividi il palco?
Bene, se dovessi scegliere, sarebbero: Chris Cornell, Layne Stanley, Dio, e probabilmente Ann e Nancy Wilson di Heart. Non penso di aver bisogno di spiegarmi, sono (erano) INCREDIBILI in quello che fanno (fatto).

Can you tell us a bit about your music? When and how did you start making music?
When making music, I always tend to write about life experiences or events happening in today’s society. I’ve always been crazy obsessed with conspiracies or educating myself with the crazy things that are happening in the world today. You would probably never hear a love or breakup song written by me (I personally think we have too much of those LOL). Instead I would write about betrayals that have happened to me or others around me. I started making music when I was three years old. My parents put me in piano lessons for about eight years, and started singing when I was nine. Rock and metal music always appealed to me because my parents always had the classic rock radio playing 24/7, so I guess that’s what really influenced me to write music in that genre!
What are your inspirations for song lyrics?
When it comes to song lyrics I always like to research about a specific event or something that I find interesting. For my first single “Never Again,” The women’s movement was super big. It was talked about all over the news and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to write a song about something so popular and something that people need to understand. Being a female in any industry can be a challenge… being paid less than men, talked down too, not given nearly as many opportunities than men, etc. That’s why I really wanted to make a song to summon up what the whole women’s movement is all about, and how to change the way that men treat women. On “Stabilized” I wrote it based on personal experiences that I’ve had in my past. During my younger years I’ve always been told that my dreams are stupid, that I would never make it in the music industry, that I should stop singing it’s not a job. I was always talked down too or made fun of the way I dressed or the music that I listened to. That was when I realized that I should never let anybody change who I am, that I am “Stabilized” the way I am.
What are the bands that inspire you?
I listened to many bands from all different genres that have influenced me, but the ones that have really influenced me the most and got me writing music are: Soundgarden, Alice in chains, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, Porcupine tree, Pat Benatar, and Alannah Myles. They are all so drastically different from each other but they all have a distinct quality that I love.
Did you study to sing or did you do it all by yourself?
When I first got into singing I went to Moura music studios in Bolton Ontario And was taught by Kate Moura for about seven years. I was also taught by Teresa Cirillo for a few years after that.
How do your songs come to life? What kind of environment do you create for yourself when you’re writing a song?
When writing, I usually start off with just piano or acoustic guitar, and I write lyrics as I go. 50 percent of the time a song is rearranged 3 or 4 times to get it to where I want it to be. It can be a long process, but once you bring the demos into the studio you get to hear how they turn from just piano or guitar to a full on kick ass rock song. It’s really exciting getting to hear your songs come to life!
How was the single “Stabilized” born? What does this song mean to you?
Like I said previously, I wrote Stabilized about the times where I was put down, and told that I was ‘weird’ or ‘not going to make it in life if I proceed with music. This is my way of saying ‘I can be who I want. I feel great the way I am!
What are the differences between “Stabilized” and “Never again”?
“Stabilized” is about self love, and “Never Again” is about women’s rights. They both talk about empowerment but portray it ina different way.
Can you tell us something about your new ep?
Yes! I will be releasing a 4 song ep by the end of this year! I can’t tell you too much about it now, but I’m super excited to release the rest of my material to the world!
In today’s world what is the role of music?
I believe the role of music is a way of storytelling or getting across a message (both negative or positive). Music can affect people both mentally and spiritually. Some, it calms… others it angers. Whatever the case may be, Music is what brings people together.
In addition to music, which arts do you prefer?
I actually went to a school of the arts for acting, film editing, and visual arts. Aside from music I love to draw, paint, edit videos, and act in short films. I’m an art freak, I love everything to do with showing creativity… except for dancing, that’s one thing I SUCK at!!
What band or musician dead or alive would you share the stage with?
Well if I had to choose they would be: Chris Cornell, Layne Stanley, Dio, and probably Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart. I don’t think I need to explain myself, they are (were) AMAZING at what they do (did).
