Benvenuti. Potete raccontarci qualcosa della vostra carriera artistica?

Death: Assolutamente! In realtà siamo ufficialmente una band da un anno. Ci siamo formati nel settembre del 2019. Quest’anno abbiamo firmato con Bentley Records a Manhattan, New York, NY.

Come vi siete incontrati? Perché avete chiamato la band My dark Reality?

Death: Oz ed io suonavamo insieme già da circa un decennio, da quando ero una matricola al liceo in realtà. Oz, mio padre, mi ha introdotto alla musica da bambino. Oz era già stato in tournée e si esibiva nel mondo della musica nazionale e internazionale. Mi ha fatto fare un tour con lui a 11 anni, cioè con i Jethro Tull, era l’artista con cui stavo solo gestendo gli affari. Mi sono esibito con lui 4 anni dopo. Gli ho fatto insegnare la chitarra in tre mesi e ho suonato il mio primo spettacolo. Il mio secondo spettacolo è stato l’apertura per B.B. King with Oz. Non suonavo il basso fino a circa 4 anni fa. Grrunge, la nostra cantante, l’ho incontrata mentre studiava all’università. Lei e io non avremmo mai immaginato di incontrarci di nuovo in seguito. Oz e io avevamo appena terminato la nostra ultima band e all’improvviso mi sono imbattuto in Grrunge al Mcdonalds di tutti i posti. Il nostro batterista, ci siamo conosciuti tramite un altro amico universitario, Steve, che ci ha presentato il nostro batterista. Per quanto riguarda il nome della nostra band, sono sicuro che per ognuno di noi ci sia un’interpretazione unica delle nostre esperienze.

Oz: Avevo appena perso il mio secondo genitore, la nonna di Death. Ho avuto questo momento epifanico in cui entrambi i miei genitori erano morti. Mi sono sentito spostato nel mondo e ho semplicemente esclamato a me stesso che questa esistenza era una realtà oscura e poi mi è venuta in mente, My dark reality! Ho chiamato Death e gli ho detto l’idea per il nuovo nome della band. Il resto è storia.

Come prendono forma le vostre canzoni?

Death: la nostra canzone di solito inizia più spesso da una riff di chitarra o da una linea di basso. A volte, una canzone prende forma da un testo o una melodia. Spesso suoniamo solo la traccia scheletrica di base per comprendere il concetto di base della canzone. Successivamente, suoniamo con varie progressioni di accordi e tempi fino a quando non stabiliamo lo stato d’animo e la composizione esatti per la canzone. A volte, scriviamo canzoni velocemente altre volte scriviamo più bozze e idee finché non troviamo quella giusta. In alcuni casi scriviamo una canzone e poi non la tocchiamo per mesi.

Abbiamo pubblicato il vostro singolo “Soulless”. Di cosa si tratta?

Death: La canzone parla di come ci si sente a vivere in modo così oscuro e vuoto. Questa canzone è il mio regalo. È il caos creato tra la vita e la morte. C’è il desiderio di sentirsi di nuovo vivi, ma ogni giorno è esattamente lo stesso, molto monotono. C’è sempre luce nell’oscurità e oscurità nella luce. Questa è l’essenza della senz’anima.

Da dove prendete l’ispirazione per i testi delle canzoni?

Death: Hmmm … penso solo dalla vita stessa.

Oz: Tendiamo solo a scrivere delle nostre esperienze passate e presenti. Per noi questa è terapia.

Chi scrive le canzoni?

Death: Oz e io scriviamo le canzoni per la band.

Riuscite a bilanciare la vostra carriera artistica con la vostra vita?

Oz: Per noi non c’è niente da bilanciare perché la musica è la nostra vita.

Progetti per il futuro?

Death: My dark reality

Oz: Musica, musica e ancora musica!

Talento, studio e tecnica. Come dovrebbero essere intrecciati in una band?

Oz: È fondamentale che questi tre componenti siano incorporati per il successo desiderato di qualsiasi band.

Qual è il ruolo della musica nel mondo di oggi?

Death: il ruolo della musica non è mai cambiato….

Oz: Il ruolo della musica è sempre stato quello di portare unità e chiarezza nel mondo. Soprattutto durante questa pandemia, la musica è terapeutica.

Come state affrontando l’emergenza Covid-19?

Oz: Onestamente ci siamo solo assorbiti nello scrivere e creare musica.

Death: siamo già introversi per natura, quindi questo aiuta ahahah.

Welcome. Can you tell us something about your artistic career?

Death: Absolutely! We actually have officially been a band for one year. We formed back in September of 2019. We signed with Bentley Records out of Manhatten, New York, NY this year.

How did you meet? Why did you call the band My dark reality?

Death: Oz and I had already been playing together for about a decade, since I was a freshman in high school actually. Oz, my father, intoduced me to music as a child. Oz had already been touring and performing in the national and international music world. He had me touring with him at 11 years old, that was with Jethro Tull, he was the performer I was just handling buisness. I performed with him 4 years later. I had him teach me guitar in three months and played my first show. My second show was opening for B.B. King with Oz. I didn’t play bass until just about 4 years ago. Grrunge, our vocalist, I met her while studying at the University. She and I never imagined running into each other again later on. Oz and I had just ended our last band and out of the blue I ran into Grrunge at Mcdonalds of all places. Our drummer, we met through another university friend, Steve, who introduced us to our drummer. In regards to our band name I’m sure for each of us there is an interpretation unique to our experiences.

Oz: I had just lost my second parent, Death’s grandmother. I had this epiphanal moment that both of my parents were dead. I felt displaced in the world and just exclaimed to myself that this existence was a dark reality and then it popped into my mind, my dark reality! I called up Dead and said the idea for the new band name. The rest was history.

How do your songs take shape?

Death: Our song’s usually start more often from a guitar rift or bass line. Sometimes, a song will take shape from a lyric or melody. We often will play just the basic skeletal track to understand the basic concept of the song. Next, we will play with various chord progressions and tempo’s until we dial in the exact mood and composition for the song. Sometimes, we write songs fast other times we write multiple drafts and ideas until we find the one. In some cases we write a song and then don’t touch it for months.

We have published your single “Soulless”. What is it about?

Death: The song is about what it feels to live so dark and empty. This song is my present. It is the chaos created between life and death. There is a desire to feel alive again but yet everyday is exactly the same, very monotonous. There is always light within darkness and darkness within light. That is the essence of soulless.

Where do you get inspiration for the lyrics of the songs?

Death: Hmmm…I think just from life itself.

Oz: We just tend to write about our experiences past and present. For us, this is therapy.

Who does the songwriting?

Death: Oz and I do the songwriting for the band.

Can you balance your artistic career with your life?

Oz: For us there is nothing to balance because music is our life.

Projects for the future?

Death: My Dark Reality!

Oz: Music, music, and more music!

Talent, study and technique. How should they be intertwined in a band?

Oz: It is imperative that those three components must be incorporated for the desired success of any band.

What is the role of music in today’s world?

Death: Music’s role has never changed.

Oz: Music’s role has always been to bring unity and clarity to the world. Especially during this pandemic, music is therapuetic.

How are you facing the Covid-19 emergency?

Oz: We have honestly just absorbed ourselves into writing and creating music.

Death: We are introverted by nature already so that helps hahaha.
