Benvenuti su system failure. Come vi siete incontrati?
Grazie per averci! Ci siamo incontrati tutti e tre al college di New Orleans, in Louisiana, mentre frequentavamo la Loyola e la Tulane University! Abbiamo continuato a incontrarci in diversi spettacoli e abbiamo deciso di iniziare a fare musica insieme.
Cosa significa per voi fare musica “Grunge Pop”? Che musica ascoltate? Chi sono i vostri “miti” musicali?
Il termine “grunge pop” cattura le influenze che modellano il nostro suono. Il nostro sound si colloca fortemente nel regno del rock degli anni ’90 e 2000 infuso con la produzione pop moderna. Crescendo abbiamo davvero ammirato band come Nirvana, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, ecc.
Potete dirci qualcosa sul vostro EP di debutto?
Il nostro EP di debutto si chiama “Where Did All The Bands Go?” e riflette sullo stato attuale dell’industria musicale e su come il rock sia tornato in auge, ma viene fatto prevalentemente da artisti solisti. Quindi è solo una semplice domanda a cui non abbiamo davvero una risposta. “Where Did All The Bands Go?”
Com’è la scena indipendente a Los Angeles?
La scena indie è decisamente forte qui. Ci sono molti artisti fai-da-te di talento che si danno da fare qui. D’altra parte, ci sono sicuramente molte persone qui fuori che cercano di sembrare indie, ma segretamente hanno molti finanziamenti da fonti sconosciute. A volte è piuttosto confuso, ma per te è Los Angeles.
“Str8jckt”. Di cosa parla questa canzone?
“Str8jckt” parla dell’essere intrappolati in una relazione in cui l’amore che provi per qualcuno ti sta lentamente soffocando. Ti sta bloccando. Ti sta trattenendo. Ad un certo punto devi interromperlo e dire “Non voglio più il tuo amore”, anche se è molto difficile lasciare quella persona.
Su quale palco sognate di suonare?
Il nostro concerto dei sogni è il palco principale del Reading Festival. Questo è il massimo onore per una rock band.
Con quale band del momento vi piacerebbe collaborare?
Ci sono tonnellate con cui ci piacerebbe collaborare. Waterparks, Palaye Royale, Yungblud, Beauty School Dropout, Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly, l’elenco potrebbe continuare all’infinito.
In un mondo in crisi geopolitica, climatica e sanitaria qual è il ruolo della musica?
La musica è qualcosa di cui tutti abbiamo bisogno. Alla fine, la musica è l’unica cosa che ha il potere di unire le persone divise. E in questo momento, ne abbiamo bisogno più che mai.
Per me il grunge non era solo un movimento musicale. Cosa ne pensate?
Grunge significa attaccare il dito medio alla perfezione. Il grunge è la creazione di arte libera dalla preoccupazione del giudizio degli altri. Il grunge sta lasciando che la tua vita funzioni come dovrebbe invece di sforzarsi così tanto di costringere le cose a succedere. Il grunge è la fiducia e l’accettazione nell’essere approssimativi. È una comprensione che chi sei è chi sei e nessuno potrà mai toccarlo.

Welcome to system failure. How did you meet?
Thank you for having us! The three of us met in college in New Orleans, Louisiana while we were attending Loyola and Tulane University! We kept running into each other at different shows and decided to start making music together.
What does it mean to you to make “Grunge Pop” music? What music do you listen to? Who are your musical “myths”?
The term “grunge pop” captures the influences that shape our sound. Our sound lies heavily within the realm of 90’s and 2000’s rock infused with modern pop production. Growing up we really looked up to bands like Nirvana, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, etc.
Can you tell us something about your debut EP?
Our debut EP is called “Where Did All The Bands Go?” and it reflects on the current state of the music industry, and how rock has made a comeback, but it’s being done predominantly by solo artists. So it’s just a simple question that we don’t really have an answer to. Where did all the bands go?
How is the independent scene in Los Angeles?
The indie scene is definitely strong here. There’s a lot of good talented DIY artists hustling out here. On the other hand, there’s definitely a lot of people out here who try to look indie, but secretly have a lot of funding from unknown sources. It’s pretty confusing sometimes, but that’s LA for you.
“Str8jckt”. What is this song about?
“Str8jckt” is about being trapped in a relationship where the love you have for someone is slowly choking you out. It’s pinning you down. It’s holding you back. At some point you have to cut it off and say “I don’t want your love no more,” although it is very hard to leave that person.
On which stage do you dream of playing?
Our dream gig is playing the main stage at Reading Festival. That’s the ultimate honor for a rock band.
Which band of the moment would you like to collaborate with?
There’s tons we’d love to collaborate with. Waterparks, Palaye Royale, Yungblud, Beauty School Dropout, Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly, the list goes on and on.
In a world in geopolitical, climatic and health crisis what is the role of music?
Music is something that we all need. At the end of the day, music is the only thing that has the power to unite divided people. And right now, we need that more than ever.
For me, grunge was not just a musical movement. What do you think about it?
Grunge means sticking your middle finger to perfection. Grunge is the creation of art free of worry about judgment from others. Grunge is letting your life work out the way it’s supposed to instead of trying so hard to force things to happen. Grunge is the confidence and acceptance in being rough around the edges. It’s an understanding that who you are is who you are and no one can ever touch that.
