Ignea – The Realms of Fire and Death
Ignea conserva il suo classico sound oriental metal nel nuovo album “The Realms of Fire and Death” che arriva dopo il precedente “The Sign of Faith”. La lead vocalist Helle Bogdanova con il suo alternare growls e parti clean è un’altra conferma della band: infatti Helle catalizza sempre tanta attenzione da parte dell’ascoltatore su impianti talvolta symphonic metal come possiamo ascoltare nell’opener “Queen dies” tanto per fare un esempio(canzone che potete trovare anche su Youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KMqB1tTruo)).
Più dinamica la successiva “Чорне Полум’я” con drumming e riffing sostenuti. Poi arrivano i soliti intermezzi melodici nei quali Helle Bogdanova offre un clean tanto attrattivo che eleva la nostra anima. Sporadici gli inserti electro nel pezzo, inserti electro che rappresentano la novità di questo album. Riguardo i riffing marziali rappresentano un’altra costante in questa band. “Í Tokuni” è una cover del pezzo di Eivør, artista synthpop dalle isole Fær Øer. La canzone è stata trasformata in un pezzo metal da Ignea mantenendo alcuni tappeti sonori electro.
L’electro lo troviamo poi all’esordio di “Too late to be born” che è seguito poi da un blast beat esplosivo, riff imponenti e da un growl possente. Sound più orientaleggiante in “What for” che conferma per l’ennesima volta il particolare sound oriental metal della band. Poi tornano i riff pesanti come macigni nella successiva “Gods of fire” accompagnati a growls e sempre alternati a parti più melodiche con il clean di Helle.
“Jinnslammer” comincia anche esso con un inserto electro ed offre altre parti symphonic. Qui come altrove il songwriting è tanto convincente come pure la produzione sonora secondo noi eccellente. L’appeal poi non manca grazie al cantato di Helle Bogdanova, una delle voci più interessanti del metal contemporaneo. Quindi altro pezzo abbastanza duro “Jinnslammer”, un pezzo che come altri dimostra la maturità ormai raggiunta da questa band. Bello il solo verso il finale del pezzo, uno dei migliori della serie a nostro giudizio.
Segue il singolo “Disenchantment”, capolavoro del disco: è con questa canzone che gli Ignea diventano davvero irresistibili grazie all’ottimo songwriting ed appeal. Questo singolo è anche presente con un video con Youtube. È con questa canzone che si raggiungono i livelli di “Alga”, “Alexandria” o di “Şeytanu Akbar” che ritengo le migliori canzoni della band proveniente dall’Ucraina.
“Black fame” termina il tutto. Una canzone che arriva come un pugno allo stomaco, difficile da parare come tanta produzione della band.
“The Realms of Fire and Death” è un’altra ottima prova di Ignea che si dimostra una realtà oltremodo originale ed interessante nel panorama metal contemporaneo. E’ stato apportato giusto qualche cambiamento qua e là al sound che rimane quasi lo stesso di prima con qualche inserto electro in più. Inoltre, speriamo che la band continui a “sperimentare” per offrirci un prodotto musicale ancora più interessante ed intrigante. Dopo tutto siamo nell’era della contaminazione nella musica come pure dell’elettronica…

Ignea retains its classic oriental metal sound in the new album “The Realms of Fire and Death” which comes after the previous “The Sign of Faith”. The lead vocalist Helle Bogdanova with her alternating growls and clean parts is another confirmation of the band: in fact Helle always catalyses so much attention from the listener on sometimes symphonic metal systems as we can listen in the opener “Queen dies” just to do an example.
The following “Чорне Полум’я” was more dynamic with sustained drumming and riffing. Then come the usual melodic interludes in which Helle Bogdanova offers a clean that is so attractive that it elevates our soul. Sporadic electro inserts in the piece, electro inserts that represent the novelty of this album. Regarding martial riffing they represent another constant in this band. “Í Tokuni” is a cover of the piece by Eivør, a synthpop artist from the Faroe Islands. The song was transformed into a metal piece by Ignea keeping some electro sound carpets.
We find the electro at the beginning of “Too late to be born” which is then followed by an explosive blast beat, impressive riffs and a powerful growl. More oriental sound in “What for” which confirms for the umpteenth time the particular oriental metal sound of the band. Then the heavy riffs like boulders return in the following “Gods of fire” accompanied by growls and always alternating with more melodic parts with the clean of Helle.
“Jinnslammer” also begins with an electro insert and offers other symphonic parts. Here, as elsewhere, songwriting is as convincing as sound production is excellent in our opinion. There is no lack of appeal thanks to the singing of Helle Bogdanova, one of the most interesting voices in contemporary metal. So another fairly hard piece “Jinnslammer”, a piece that like others shows the maturity now reached by this band. Nice solo towards the end of the piece, one of the best in the series in our opinion.
Follows the single “Disenchantment”, a masterpiece of the album: it is with this song that Ignea become truly irresistible thanks to the excellent songwriting and appeal. This single is also present with a video with Youtube. It is with this song that we reach the levels of “Alga”, “Alexandria” or “Şeytanu Akbar” that I consider the best songs of the band from Ukraine.
“Black fame” ends it all. A song that comes like a punch to the stomach, difficult to parry like so much band production.
“The Realms of Fire and Death” is another excellent test by Ignea which proves to be an extremely original and interesting reality in the contemporary metal scene. Just a few changes have been made here and there to the sound that remains almost the same as before with a few more electro inserts. Furthermore, we hope that the band will continue to “experiment” to offer us an even more interesting and intriguing musical product. After all, we are in the era of contamination in music as well as electronics …
