IGNEA — Disenchantment (Official Music Video)

IGNEA ha pubblicato il video musicale per il singolo “Disenchantment“, singolo estratto dal loro prossimo album “The Realms of Fire and Death“, la cui uscita è prevista per il 17 aprile 2020.

Nel video, vediamo una persona che trova un disco rigido difettoso contenente un file danneggiato di un film che racconta la storia a nome di Gods of Fire nei confronti dell’umanità. Non solo le persone usavano la sacra fiamma per uccidersi a vicenda, ma alla fine iniziarono anche a sostituire il fuoco con l’elettricità – luce artificiale e senz’anima. Gli dei sono stati “disincantati” nei terrestri e li hanno lasciati, sostenendo che “quando la luce artificiale è spenta quando sei bruciato dai watt che amavi, tornerai all’inizio ma saremo lontani“.

Austero, solenne ed heavy il nuovo singolo di Ignea come è nel loro stile. La voce di Helle Bogdanova catalizza tanta attenzione: la lead vocalist ben si alterna tra growl e clean creando un equilibrio tanto allettante. I riff sono sempre pesanti come macigni come ci ha abituato da tempo la band. Troviamo anche ipnotici inserti electro che arricchiscono il tutto. L’esordio della canzone con archi è tanto incantevole, archi spesso presenti nella musica di questa band. Inoltre, come non dirlo, songwriting e produzione sonora sono stellari in Ignea. Poi, a tratti, Helle Bogdanova ci fa proprio sognare o ci aggredisce come una tigre furiosa…

The Realms of Fire and Death(artwork sotto) è un concept album con forti narrazioni, metafore, simboli ed è accompagnato da un libro di racconti che incorpora i testi di ogni canzone. È diviso in tre parti principali, ciascuna composta da 3 brani. Le canzoni di ogni parte delineano una certa storia separata, portando i temi del fuoco e della morte da varie prospettive.

“IGNEA significa fiammeggiante nel femminile. Realizzare un album legato al fuoco era solo una questione di tempo e di adeguata ispirazione“, afferma Helle, la cantante degli IGNEA. “Leggere le storie che accompagnano l’album cambierà totalmente la tua prospettiva e percezione della nostra musica. Con il nuovo album, vogliamo raccontare alla gente varie storie che sono immaginarie ma che possono evocare associazioni. Stiamo bilanciando tra fiaba e brutalità come se fossero due parti di una cosa“.

Musicalmente, The Realms of Fire and Death è un metal dal suono moderno che ha la dinamica di passare da parti più leggere a parti più brutali, eppure, preservando la parte melodica. Mentre in precedenza la band lavorava in una direzione sinfonica, la parte melodica del nuovo album viene eseguita usando vari sintetizzatori e suoni elettronici.

Per la prima volta, IGNEA ha creato una canzone Чорне Полум’я (Chorne Polumia) nella loro lingua madre, l’ucraino. Nell’album, questa canzone è disponibile anche in versione inglese come bonus. Oltre alle tracce originali, l’album contiene anche una copertina di Í Tokuni del cantautore faroese Eivør.

IGNEA has presented an official music video for Disenchantment from their upcoming album The Realms of Fire and Death, the release of which is planned for April 17, 2020.

In the video, we see a person who finds a defective hard drive containing a damaged file of a film telling the story on behalf of Gods of Fire towards mankind. Not only people used the sacred flame to kill each other but, eventually, they also started substituting fire with electricity — artificial, soulless light. The gods were “disenchanted” in the earthlings and left them, claiming that “when artificial light is off when you are burnt by the watts you loved, you will return to inception but we’ll be far away.”

Single review:

Austere, solemn and heavy, Ignea’s new single as it is in their style. Helle Bogdanova’s voice catalyzes a lot of attention: the lead vocalist alternates well between growl and clean, creating such an attractive balance. The riffs are always as heavy as boulders as the band has accustomed us for some time. We also find hypnotic electro inserts that enrich the whole. The debut of the song with strings is so enchanting, strings often present in the music of this band. Also, how not to say, songwriting and sound production are stellar in Ignea. Then, at times, Helle Bogdanova makes us dream or attacks us like a furious tiger …

The Realms of Fire and Death(artwork above) is a concept album with strong story-telling, metaphors, symbols, and is accompanied by a book of short tales incorporating the lyrics of each song. It is divided into three major parts, each consisting of 3 songs. Songs of each part are outlining a certain separate story, bringing the themes of fire and death from various perspectives.

“IGNEA means “flaming” in the feminine. Making an album related to fire was only a matter of time and proper inspiration,” says Helle, the vocalist of IGNEA. “Reading the tales accompanying the album will totally change your perspective and perception of our music. With the new album, we want to tell people various stories that are imaginary but can evoke associations. We are balancing between the fairy-tale and brutality as if these were two parts of one thing.”

Musically, The Realms of Fire and Death is a modern-sounding metal having the dynamics of shifting from lighter to more brutal parts, and yet, preserving the melodic part. While earlier the band was working in a symphonic direction, the melodic part in the new album is executed through using various synths and electronic sounds.

For the first time, IGNEA created a song Чорне Полум’я (Chorne Polumia) in their mother tongue, Ukrainian. On the album, this song also comes in an English version as a bonus. Apart from the original tracks, the album also contains a cover for Í Tokuni by the Faroese singer-songwriter Eivør.
