Gloomy june – il video di “Always gonna let you down”

English version:

gloomy june recently released their debut single “Save Anyone,” and announced their Spring Tour and slot at Fest 20, and for San Francisco’s favorite indie pop band, that’s just the beginning.
On April 21, gloomy june is releasing their glossy new wave pop single– “Always Gonna Let You Down” ahead of the release of their upcoming EP: Popsick, out May 13.

The new single, “Always Gonna Let You Down,” developed when guitarist Devin Nelson came to band practice with a synth instrumental of the track. The dancey melody and rhythm reminded the band of an 80’s record like Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” and with Nelson’s suggestion of the title, “Always Gonna Let You Down” was born.

The lyrics of “Always” were written by vocalist Alexi Belchere during the unnerving Summer of 2020. As the pandemic drove people to “social-distance socialize” at the beach or the park, the surreal image of everyone, (including Belchere,) carrying on with social activities during the tragic time lead to the escapist lyrics of the song. It was written from the point of view of someone having a bad time at a party, and spreading that bad time to their partner who comes to check on them.

The music video concept for “Always Gonna Let You Down” was inspired by the first line of the song “I killed the party yet again.” Taking that line, Nelson came up with the idea of the grim reaper dancing around the remnants of a house party, with the band being the only inhabitants remaining. The video was shot, directed and edited by Izzie Clark, whose house was also trashed in the making of the video, and the reaper was played by Ha Vay.

Catch gloomy june on tour this spring and summer, kicking off in their hometown of San Francisco opening for The Mysterines May 3 at Brick and Mortar Music Hall, reaching as far as Montreal Canada for Pouzza Fest 10 on May 20, and cutting through the West in June and July.

single review:

The electro refrains present in the song contribute to making it so dream pop. Furthermore, these refrains trigger a lot of appeal for the listener. Alexi Rose Belchere’s singing is dazzling and together with the chorus she too makes it all so attractive.

The sound atmosphere that sometimes recalls the 80’s style electro pop makes me think of Computer magic (Danz). Young, cool, truly alternative and in part similar to bands and artists in vogue at the moment (like Wolf Alice or Chvrches for example) for us Gloomy June is the next “big thing” on the independent world scene.

How not to notice the video so cool, youthful, a party we all want to participate in….
