Cellar Cat – è uscito “Living dead” con il feat. di Eissa dei Morphide
Dopo il successo dell’uscita del loro primo EP “Broken Glass” lo scorso anno, i Cellar Cat, un gruppo rock ed alternative metal lettone, si sono presi un po’ di tempo per ripensare il proprio sound ed esplorare diversi percorsi musicali.
Il risultato è il nuovo singolo – “Living Dead”. Questa canzone attinge pesantemente alle moderne influenze alternative metal , ma mantiene una caratteristica distintiva della band: una melodia che è facile da cantare.
“Living Dead” vede anche un’apparizione come ospite di un collega musicista lettone – Eissa Morphide, la cantante della band progressive/alternative metal Morphide.
I Cellar Cat suonano più heavy di prima, con chitarre e bassi che aggiungono una corda in più ciascuno per un’accordatura più bassa, e il cantante della band Alex aggiunge screams come parte della sua performance vocale. Questo si addice anche a Eissa, poiché è ben nota sia per la sua voce dolce e pulita che per le potenti urla aggressive.
Alex racconta come è nata l’idea per il lungometraggio di Eissa:
“Tutti noi dei Cellar Cat e i musicisti dei Morphide veniamo dalla stessa città della Lettonia. Ora, però, i Morphide si trovano principalmente in Danimarca. Ci siamo conosciuti quando Eissa ha avuto un cameo nel nostro precedente video musicale per “Jericho”, e si è scoperto che i Morphide erano persone molto simpatiche ed estroverse. Un paio di mesi dopo ho visitato Copenaghen e li ho incontrati di persona: abbiamo trascorso dei momenti fantastici e da allora non ho potuto smettere di pensare di creare qualcosa insieme. Poi, non appena “Living Dead” è stato pronto musicalmente e nei testi, ho capito subito cosa volevo farne. Quindi ho inviato un messaggio a Eissa e la nostra collaborazione ha funzionato eccezionalmente bene.
La canzone e il video musicale di accompagnamento raccontano una storia molto personale di essere bloccati in una relazione tossica. Si può facilmente passare dall’intorpidimento alla perdita della testa a causa degli sbalzi emotivi e dell’abuso, tipici di questi.
La regista del video musicale Katerina Jakovleva è riuscita a catturare perfettamente l’essenza di questa incapacità di staccarsi. Il video, girato per lo più di notte in una vera casa di campagna, ha un’atmosfera di ansia e sgomento. Non solo traduce bene l’idea della canzone, ma si basa sulla canzone per un messaggio ancora più forte.
Recensione del singolo:
Living dead è un singolo alternative rock con alcune sonorità alternative metal: un buon miscuglio di entrambi i generi musicali. Belle le melodie che lo contraddistinguono. Alex con il suo cantato in clean ben si abbina al sound a tratti morbido della band. Poi arriva la parte della canzone più heavy con gli scream sia di Alex che di Eissa. Anche Eissa porta delle parti in clean che cercano di ricalcare la vocalità di Alex.
Lo stupendo chorus è tanto catchy come pure alcune linee melodiche. Come non ricordarlo, Eissa in qualsiasi progetto si butta riesce a conferire vibrazioni speciali.

After a successful release of their first EP “Broken Glass” last year, Cellar Cat, an alternative rock and metal band from Latvia, took some time to rethink their sound and explore different musical paths.
The result is the new single – “Living Dead”. This song draws heavily on modern alternative metal influences, yet keeps a signature feature of the band: a melody that is easy to sing along to.
“Living Dead” also sees a guest appearance from a fellow Latvian musician – Eissa Morphide, the vocalist of the progressive/alternative metal band Morphide.
Cellar Cat sound heavier than before – with guitars and bass adding an extra string each for a lower tuning, and the band’s vocalist Alex adding screaming as a part of his vocal performance. This also suits Eissa, as she is well known for both her mellow clean vocals and powerful aggressive screams.
Alex tells how the idea for Eissa’s feature came along:
“All of us in Cellar Cat and the musicians from Morphide come from the same city in Latvia. Now, though, Morphide are mostly located in Denmark. We got to know each other when Eissa had a cameo in our previous music video for “Jericho”, and it turned out that Morphide were very nice and outgoing people. Couple of months later I visited Copenhagen and met them in person – we spent some amazing time, and since then I could not stop thinking about creating something together. Then, as soon as “Living Dead” was ready musically and lyrically, I knew immediately what I wanted to do with it. So I messaged Eissa, and our collaboration worked out exceptionally well”
The song and the accompanying music video tell a very personal story of being stuck in a toxic relationship. One can easily traverse from numbness to losing their mind as a result of the emotional swings and abuse, typical for these.
The music video director Katerina Jakovleva managed to perfectly capture the essence of this inability to break away. The video, which was shot mostly during the night in a real country house, has a vibe of anxiety and dismay. Not only does it translate the song’s idea well, but it builds on the song for an even stronger message.
Single review:
“Living dead” is an alternative rock single with some alternative metal sounds: a good mix of both musical genres. Beautiful melodies that distinguish it. Alex with his clean singing goes well with the sometimes soft sound of the band. Then comes the heavier part of the song with screams from both Alex and Eissa. Eissa also brings some clean parts that try to follow Alex’s vocals.
The gorgeous chorus is as catchy as some melodic lines. How can we forget it, Eissa manages to give special vibes to any project she throws herself into.
