Blooming Fire – Dunia
Blooming Fire è una band alternative rock di cinque membri con sede a Los Angeles. La band è formata da Sierra Madre(voce, sassofono, sample pad, chitarra e keys), Ian Nagay(voce e keys), Dryden Van Cleave(harmonies, chitarra e keys), Robby Coe(batteria, sample pad) e Alyssa Sanders(basso e Keys).
La band si vanta di essere leader per la giustizia, la sostenibilità e una voce per il cambiamento. Il sound di Blooming Fire “non sarà mai limitato a un genere e ti porterà in un viaggio emotivo e musicale che permea le onde della vita”, secondo le parole della band.
Le influenze sonore sono molteplici: Pink Floyd, Thievery Corporation, Modest Mouse, Nirvana, Tycho, Marc Gulliana, Massive Attack, 311, Fleetwood Mac, Rage Against the Machine, Mac Miller, The Beatles, Rodney Mullen, Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmore, Terrence McKenna, Maceo Parker, Warpaint, John Muir, Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse.
Di recente hanno pubblicato il loro secondo EP intitolato “Dunia“, che significa “Terra” in swahili e stanno attualmente lavorando al loro primo album. System failure ha ascoltato “Dunia” e quelle che seguono sono le nostre considerazioni a riguardo.
Si parte con la title-track “Dunia” con un esordio electro e poi la canzone si apre con l’ingresso di altri strumenti. Il cantato di Sierra Madre è tanto ammaliante e catalizza l’attenzione dell’ascoltatore. Il sound è in parte “hippie style” e fa pensare a band psych rock tipo Jefferson Airplane o Soft Machine. Ci sono refrain tanto ammalianti come pure parti in rap. Tante le variazioni nella song per un sound eccentrico e sperimentale. Non mancano pure riff hard rock.
Poi arriva “Blame it all”. Ancora altro esordio electro-psych stavolta abbastanza esteso per poi arrivare a sonorità dub con rap sempre tanto coinvolgente. Infatti, Sierra Madre mostra tanta versatilità con il suo cantato in diversi registri e stili. Verso la fine del pezzo un solo tanto travolgente. Poi segue “Freedom”(di cui abbiamo messo una versione unplugged sotto) con le sue keys iniziali: tanto evocativa in questo suo inizio con spirali sonore tanto magnetiche. Qui ci sono sonorità tendenti verso pop e indie rock che poi si tramutano in trip hop. Il cantato è caldo e sensuale. Il rap frenetico di Ian Nagay si alterna splendidamente con quello di Sierra Madre. Qui pensiamo a Portishead o Massive Attack per alcuni tratti.
“Bless my heart” termina il tutto con il suo inizio tanto incisivo e pungente ancora in stile trip hop. Un synth tanto duro cattura la nostra attenzione e viene accompagnato dal cantato leggiadro di Sierra Madre e come non notare il contrasto tra il cantato e il synth che si trasporta per tutto il pezzo come asse portante. Migliore canzone della serie a nostro giudizio. Gli accenni psych rock sono sempre presenti. Una canzone che senza dubbio scalda il nostro cuore!
Blooming fire ci porta un ibrido di sonorità trip hop, hip hop, psych rock, alternative rock, hard rock assolutamente interessante. Sono irresistibili per coloro a cui piace la sperimentazione. Con loro annoiarsi è impossibile! Inoltre, come non notare il loro afflato “hippie” e sognante. Insomma, musica altamente intellettuale per un pubblico di sognatori. E poi, come non dirlo, il songwriting e la produzione sono abbastanza curati e di appeal c’è ne è tanto. Ve li consigliamo con ardore!

They recently released their second EP entitled “Dunia” which means “Earth” in Swahili and are currently working on their first album. System failure listened to “Dunia” and the following are our considerations about it.
We start with the title track “Dunia” with an electro debut and then the song opens with the entry of other instruments. Sierra Madre is so bewitching and catalyses the attention of the listener. The sound is partly “hippie style” and suggests psych rock band like Jefferson Airplane or Soft Machine. There are refrains as fascinating as there are parts in rap. Many variations in the song for an eccentric and experimental sound. There are also hard rock riffs.
Then comes “Blame it all”. Yet another electro-psych debut, this time quite extensive, to then arrive at dub sounds with rap always so engaging. In fact, Sierra Madre shows such versatility with its singing in different registers and styles. A solo so overwhelming towards the end of the piece. Then follows “Freedom” (of which we put an unplugged version above) with its initial keys: so evocative in its beginning with such magnetic sounding spirals. Here there are sounds that tend towards pop and indie rock that then turn into trip hop. The singing is warm and sensual. Ian Nagay’s frantic rap alternates splendidly with that of Sierra Madre. Here we think of Portishead or Massive Attack for some sections.
“Bless my heart” ends ep with its incisive and pungent beginning still in trip hop style. A hard synth captures our attention and is accompanied by the graceful vocals of Sierra Madre and how not to notice the contrast between the vocals and the synth that is carried throughout the piece. Best song in the series in our opinion. The psych rock accents are always present. A song that undoubtedly warms our hearts!
Blooming fire brings us a hybrid of trip hop, hip hop, psych rock, alternative rock absolutely interesting. They are irresistible to those who like experimentation. It is impossible to get bored with them! Also, how not to notice their “hippie” and dreamy inspiration. In short, highly intellectual music for an audience of dreamers. And then, how not to say it, the songwriting and the production are quite accurate and there is so much appeal. We warmly recommend them!
